Ted Codd, the 'Father of the Relational Database', died on April 18th.2003, in Williams Island,Florida.
We all owe him a tremendous debt for opening up a very interesting and challenging area of work.
In 1970, he published his Seminal paper, entitled 'The Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks'.

Codd's approach is based on Relational Algebra and provides a sound theoretical foundation for creaitng Relatioanal Data Models, in contrast to the Object-Oriented approach.
